As for the representation we name the “Galaxy”, it has actually never been worked out into a detailed plan. Forms are meant to express the spirit, in a progressive way: as the presence of the spirit grows and life itself responds to it, the forms it requires evolve and gain in clarity. The Spirit of Auroville is not a separate entity that seeks to establish itself regardless of the existing conditions; part of the task of embodiment is necessarily concerned with their integration. Likewise, a cohesive plan of the city must necessarily integrate what has been accomplished so far and harmonize it with its main features. Mother had indicated a number for the population that would eventually inhabit – “sojourn” in - this city at the service of truth, this city the earth needs: fifty thousands. This has given us a context for our adventure and the growth of our awareness, placing our commitment beyond the ordinary scope of a community or a tribe, to a representative level of humanity at large, while allowing for this developing awareness not to be overwhelmed by the sheer mass of unprepared comers. Mother has thus given a number of indications, to serve as clues on our way, whether in terms of experience and practice or in terms of material arrangements, while reminding us that life itself would help create the new forms for this new consciousness.
