On Auroville 2022 to 2025

All land purchased for Auroville, donated to the Mother for Her Work and Action upon earth, is meant for the Supreme alone: it is the beginning upon earth of a realization that must eventually spread through all countries, a reclaiming of the Earth as the Lord‟s habitation. Those who have pledged themselves to the experience of Auroville as the servitors of this Consciousness-Force at work to prepare humanity for the next evolutionary step, are stewards and caretakers of the Divine‟s dedicated domain, and offer themselves to the laboratory of change and becoming, individually as well as collectively. At every moment and in every situation, the aim is to become more conscious, in every part and level of the being and of the physical body; every contradiction and every opposition are pointers to a larger, higher and deeper truth, opening our awareness to a truer existence upon earth. The site of Auroville is meant for the progressive development of a crucible – that of the new birth, the birth of a new being upon earth, incarnating a new consciousness, in the midst of a protective, harmonious, evolving representative nucleus of humankind.

This is our chosen task and mission.

Auroville cannot fail; it is not born of human will, desire, or conception, but directly originated from the true Consciousness , the Consciousness that is alone capable of taking the lead of evolution upon earth and establish a living, progressive harmony.

2- In practical terms, the situation has gone through several Stages:

Initially, the Mother had formed a Society, the Sri Aurobindo Society, whose functions were to invite donations for the work and, when She launched the creation of Auroville, this same Society was tasked with the purchase of the necessary land, of which it would become nominally the legal owner, with Her as President. Land was first purchased in the area between the Usteri lake (now renamed Ussudu) and the highway. Then the terrain was deemed too restricted by this developing highway - from Pondicherry to Tindivanam and Chennai - and the focus shifted to an almost deserted and barren plateau between the highway and the sea.
