On Auroville 2022 to 2025

I remember clearly having pronounced in support of this warning; if I narrate this, it is to try and express what I then realized, the amplitude of a deep misunderstanding, the measure of which I perceived through such incidents. For I had not the least animosity towards any of these „neutrals‟ and, in fact and to some extent, their position was comprehensible to me; I had never had any contact with Panditji; I had trust in Satprem, even if at times I found him excessive; I often felt ill at ease with declarations by some or others and uncertain before some attitudes; but in my consciousness it was completely clear and evident that the Mother‟s Force alone could guide us and lead us on the way to the True, and t hat we needed no other influence, no other help, no other knowledge – only Hers. Likewise it appeared equally evident to me that the very movement of turning to another practice and to another, lesser degree of knowledge, could but sow further confusion and trouble the receptivity which we needed so critically. Nevertheless, observing that the position I had expressed reinforced an attitude of denunciation leading to ostracism I became conscious of a terrible misunderstanding, and this misunderstanding continues to operate under other guises. How to define it? Mother and Sri Aurobindo had done all the work, cleared and cleaved the way of an awakening to a sovereign Truth-Consciousness which would take the reins of terrestrial evolution; our part was to learn to step onto this new path, to offer everything to it and find everything in it; how could it be that this treasure trove of clues and concrete, verifiable indications which They had left with us, the concrete and verifiable Presence of the Force of Consciousness watching over each of us, how could it be that it would be deemed insufficient? At the same time I became aware that, as long as ego subsists, the ugliness of exclusivism remains active. What cannot tolerate difference, cannot be true. What cannot tolerate purity, cannot be true. All authentic expressions of the truth of one‟s being have their place in Mother‟s consciousness. These three sayings may well appear incompatible to our mental intelligence, which requires an organizing logic as well as some degree of morality; yet Mother‟s actions with different individuals have clearly illustrated their coexistence. It is only our attachment to our limitations – to the separateness resulting from the ego – that prevents us from integrating their apparent contradiction. The period I am evoking here with this symbolic incident was in fact very favorable to the progress of the collective consciousness: we had no legal existence, we were outlaws and had no other recourse than relying on the Grace; we had thus perforce to learn and define, for ourselves, in our diversity already marked, a code of conduct which would serve as our impersonal reference and would be faithful and open enough not to betray either through a lack of responsibility or an excess of rigor. In this respect, one could justifiably wonder nowadays hoe, from a simple code of conduct, have we come to this proliferation of senseless regulations?
