… I was late to start the puja today; Parthy had taken leave of his work to come and pray to Sri Ganesh and to inform me of what he’d learned earlier this morning, just after I left home, from E., the gardener in “Sincerity”; it seems that M. has recently gone to our new neighbor L. – who has proved to be quite a boastful liar and cheated everyone in the community – to secure his support in trying to throw

me out of the temple…! Parthy was very upset… And so, the “saga” continues!

Yesterday afternoon, returning here on my cycle to water the garden, I had found that M. had come again in my absence and offered fresh vegetables and a few flowers to Sri Ganesh… I guess it is possible that, right side by side, such opposites may co- exist within the same individual, but in this instance it seems to be very close to a pathological disorder… In any case it now seems clear that M.’s intent has been for quite a while to somehow maneuver me so he could turn the temple and its premises as his base of operations and make the place “fructify” by getting donations, giving classes, establishing his “landscaping business” and whatever bright notion he would wish to entertain; but of course I became the main obstacle… It is the swindler in him, and he knows – he’s even got confirmation of it through these palm-leaf readings of his previous lives – that it follows him from a past, unresolved experience… However I am now quite worried for him, as there is no glimmer of realization in him even after all these weeks and, on the contrary, he appears to feel comfortable with his condition. What also worries me is that, until and unless this situation clarifies, I do not see any way for me to absent myself and go to visit with Francis, my father – I have already postponed it since last January, also because I did not feel well enough physically… So, I lay this whole matter at Your feet, and ask Sri Ganesh to see to it all.
