Today is a day of maintenance for the Electricity Board and all supply is cut; while I am doing the puja I realize that a whole group of men has entered the garden and is hacking at all the trees and shrubs that are too close to the high-tension line. Most disturbing is the way they work, too many men for the job, all talking all the time, no care or concern for the living plants – but no ill-will as such, just a grossness of habit; and they go away just as suddenly, leaving the branches lying where they fell. Yet two of them, supervisors probably, saw me doing the Aarti and came in to attend and one of them later offered Rs. 10/-… And so, later in the morning, I had to re-cut
