... Just as I end the Aarti, Madhu and his wife arrive, at the same time as Lakshman, his little boy and one of his team trainers, who have come to formally invite me to the Archery performance... Afterwards, Madhu stays on and offers Rs. 100/- and then he hands me a wrapped, cheap necklace studded with fake pearls and glittery with green and red glass beads and I see the price tag still attached on it (Rs. 200/-); I hand it back saying it is not correct not to have removed the tag; at once his wife gets hold of it and unwraps it and removes the tag. Then Madhu wants me to put the necklace on Sri Ganesh. I refuse, saying that for today it is too late and in any case I would accept nothing from him as he would be liable to file a police complaint again stating that I have stolen it from him. As he insists, I tell him to write and sign a note stating that he is giving such a necklace as an offering to Sri Ganesh, on such a date. He agrees and goes at once to write it and hands the note to me. They then tell me that it being his birthday on the 7 th , could I please lay the necklace on Sri Ganesh then, and I agree. The point is that I have finally been able in front of Sri Ganesh to precisely articulate his past mischief, and his wife understood very well. (The note reads: “I have offered 1 (ONE) Necklace for Lord Shri Ganesh today – The necklace is of made by imitation jewellery – Madhu Shah. Ahmedabad.”) ... Another Rs. 10/- are offered...
