Contemporary to Sri Ramakrishna, Shirdi Sai Baba was born circa 1838 and attained the age of 80 when he passed on, at the end of the year 1918. He thus would have been very present in the subtle atmosphere of India while Sri Aurobindo proceeded through his own initiatory stages and eventually settled in Pondicherry for his transformative Yoga.
