Which town?

This ashram was but one element in Their Work – Their Work for the future of the Earth. Along the years, its reality had been weighted down with the ordinary routine of many physical consciousnesses that have not yet entirely offered themselves to the change. For the new consciousness to take root in this world, there was need to act upon a much greater diversity of human types. But it would also be necessary to initiate, in one or in several privileged sites, the terms and constituents of such collective organization that could serve as an example for the emergence of human societies more conscious of the essential unity of all that is. These sites would be meant for experimentation, laboratories in fact, provided with a relative autonomy and independence – in cultural, legal, financial, administrative and energetic terms – so as to considerably reduce if not altogether neutralize the influences of the ordinary world: sites entirely and exclusively dedicated to the experience.

There was, some ten kilometers North-West of Pondicherry, a small seasonal lake near which the ashram had already been able to acquire a few lands and establish a farm, an orchard, a garden. On the verges of this lake, which only filled up with the monsoon rains, were other untended lands which perhaps their owners might be willing to sell.
