On Auroville 2022 to 2025

-11: 11-11-2022: “Open Letter to Sri R.N.Ravi… To Sri R.N. Ravi, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Auroville Foundation In response to his speech as recorded on November 7 th , 2022, in Auroville. Sir, You have invited individual responses to your speech addressed to all residents of Auroville, to be sent to you in writing within a week time. You are a very busy person, charged with heavy duties and hardly in a position to consecrate the time needed to read attentively those responses; yet one must have the faith that, if you have indeed extended this invitation, there must be on your side a readiness to reflect, along with us all, on the destiny of Auroville. So, here I shall try to present, in a broad and summarized manner, those aspects and perspectives which, from the contents of your speech, seem to have been ignored or underestimated. The perspectives. First, the simplest and most telling perspective, in this yoga of the earth as evolved by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, is that all of life is to be offered to the Truth Consciousness; all of its parts and movements and activities and tendencies, so that each and every one is touched by the Force of Consciousness and included in the movement of change; it is thus necessarily an all-inclusive process which must be integrated in the progress of the collective awareness of Auroville. Secondly, all the difficulties and contradictions that beset human consciousness, need to be worked on by the same Consciousness-Force: and as the Mother stated, if India is the field where the difficulties of the world must be resolved in the true Light, so is Auroville a concentrate of these and a site of resolution for India itself. Auroville is essentially a laboratory - an experiment -, wherein enough representatives of the positions, approaches, attitudes and modes of action and thought that are current in the present human condition must be presented to the Consciousness which has come to take the lead of evolution. Auroville is not a community of like-minded people gathered for some research in, for instance, some alternative way of life, although discoveries may be made on the way that will be useful for the whole; it is not either a selective “spiritual” endeavor with its own precepts and regulations. Its raison d‟être and purpose are more profound an d crucial; it is meant to become an environment for the birth of a new being, an environment of comprehensive harmony in all fields of human existence, so that the new being may be welcomed upon earth. Historical, social and environmental context. Now there are a number of factors, historically and socially, that have determined much of the present reality of Auroville and they cannot be ignored; it is easy of course to criticize and even to regret or deplore some of the features presently apparent, but it is also imperative to remember the context at its different levels.
