On Auroville 2022 to 2025

To Sweet Mother

(A note of reminder: As we are presently confronted with the reality of an effective takeover by the representatives of the Central Government of India, assisted by a few Aurovilians who see in this radical intervention the only way to reestablish the ideal development of the city of Auroville, and we must observe the many departures from elementary ethics and even consider the possibility of expulsions, of brutal interruption of the experiment and of forced exile, it is most necessary to find in ourselves this certitude that has carried us through the years, the certitude that the creation of Auroville is the Mother‟s offering to That which she named „the Supreme Lord‟ and that therefore Auroville, its truth and its destiny belong to Him, whatever may be the appearances and come what may.) We are in the summer of 2022 and Auroville is occupied by a battle of perspectives, a conflict as absurd as it is noxious, as if all the participants were deported and alienated from the one essential priority, that of the progress of our consciousness, which all difficulties and seeming contradictions can serve and hasten if only we remain aligned and centered in our aspiration to grow in truth. I would so much wish to show, for instance, the inanity of this obsessive insistence on physically realizing an urbanization plan that, however attractive it may still appear, s NOT issued from the supreme source of the adventure of Auroville, a plan which one can in no way attribute to the conscious and ever present will or vision of the Mother, nor consequently charge with her authority; but how to do so without raising such a racket and opprobrium that the very significance of the message will be neutralized? Nonetheless, let us try, to approach the issue, to keep strictly to the facts: not a single document signed by her, nor a single record of her words, indicates anywhere her will to see this particular plan materialized, about which mountains of arguments and whole panoplies of legal terms are nowadays displayed. This famous plan of the galaxy, which has been revised, amended, modified, altered, studied, criticized, worshipped so many times and in so many ways over the five decades of Auroville‟s existence , if it has indeed initially appeared in one of its first versions on a brochure printed as information to the public and an invitation for donations and contributions, at the back of which Mother had signed her blessings, prior to the official inauguration of Auroville, not only has never been developed as a detailed execution plan taking into account all existing parameters, but represents a model which is different from the one originally appreciated by her as a clear translation of her formation – that of a nebulae with its immobile radiation in all directions at once, instead of this later one of a galaxy rotating leftward.
