Another Choice

What such examples actually demonstrate to the physical consciousness is the continuum of Consciousness: the direct communication of its states, or degrees, or levels, or rungs, modes or planes. It shows us how this consciousness which is actively involved in Matter, its constituents and their relations, can be put in the direct presence of the highest and most total consciousness: essentially, Consciousness is One.

In Matter, the Supreme is already there.

But we must dislodge the habit of death.

This hypnosis must be dissolved, undone must be this hell on earth and this monstrous malady that multiplies misery and infects all of creation must come to an end and be absorbed.

It is not that whoever has found one’s free inner consciousness will then wish to physically live forever: it is not a matter of changing prisons, of escaping mortal ignorance into a fixed and stagnant immortality – a frightful and absurd constraint. It is rather that we must find, in the body and Matter, the possibilities to incarnate and to withdraw consciously and harmoniously, for each being according to one’s rhythms and inner laws and in accord with the general unfolding.

The first and redoubtable contradiction we encounter in the body is that of the cellular ageing: a rigid and absolute law that applies unfailingly at levels of consciousness we have as yet no access to but through observation, hypothesis and deduction, instrumental experimenting, piecing together and, sometimes, intuition.
