As for the hedonistic tradition, its persuasion is that of the legitimate enjoyment of the creature, enjoyment which it is everyone’s duty to refine and enrich and cultivate in the awakened, positive and generous acceptance of our condition.

Sexuality and the sexual tension are different in each human being: their active role, the proportion of their influence on the rest of the individualized nature, are unique in each being and vary along with the experience.
The aroused exteriority of the sexual desire alienates us from ourselves and thus from the others as well – who become either objects or agents of dominance in our private experience.
We are at the mercy of the dreads and fears, the obsessions and possessions, repulsions, exploitations and indifferences that devalue us: this alienation makes of us mere playthings or marionettes – and victims. Because we have nowhere been able to learn and discriminate between the divers origins of our emotions and impulses, we associate the sexual desire, demand and pleasure with more inward and durable sentiments of recognition and sharing. In the shadow of death, under the whip of our precariousness as creatures, one’s need of the other and one’s self-giving mingle with more contrary and ambiguous passions and are weighed down with a poignancy and pathos that blinds us.
