... There was no chance to write anything and now, too, there is little time to do so... On the night of the 29 th to the 30 th of December, the cyclone named “Thane” began its dance of destruction. Its eye passed over us all around 3 am but it continued, with

increasing rainfall, till the next afternoon. It has caused unprecedented devastation. Auroville is unrecognizable.

But the worst-hit was the area between Pondy and Cuddalore, although, being on a higher altitude, we got more of the wind-force. All the electrical lines and most of the poles are down and perhaps half of the large trees have been uprooted or felled. Only on the 31 st was I able to cycle over here, when enough passage was cleared on the roads, and then I had to hack my way to the door of the shrine – to find Ganeshji waiting, undisturbed...! On the 1 st of January Parthy came and did the puja – I was fully occupied trying to restore some harmony in the house at Sincerity. And in the afternoon he, Parasu, and their brother-in-law worked hard and cleared the main path of all fallen branches... This morning I came “as usual”... It will surely take many weeks for peace and harmony to return in the environment... What one has felt, seen, wondered is... still too raw... Later. This is how the New Year was born...

Sri Ganesh’s beauty is gorgeous. The fallen fruits of the creeper have been offered. Human love is offered.

What are the remaining chances for humanity to be the cradle of a new, stronger, truer, happier being? What are the chances that remain of this Earth being made the Lord’s Habitation?
