Vipul comes, like the last two Saturdays, with two small bags of loose flowers, and a smile on his face when I wish him “Namaskar”; he sits through the entire puja unmoving, mostly with his eyes closed, and he looks generally rather somber… Later, I go to my gardening work and he leaves without a glance… I had hoped something would melt, for Kusum’s sake, but it doesn’t seem to want to happen… Perhaps I should have addressed him, tried to draw him out of his shell, but after all he’s done against me, the lies, calumny and slander, I guess I think it is up to him to make a first step…

There is dullness in me today; I am almost ashamed to approach Sri Ganesh, to go through the motions, as if profanity was actually and merely the absence of aspiration and the lack of awareness and a deficiency in self-giving…!
