No one is at work when I arrive today; when I enter the compound I soon find there’s been a break-in; one by one the clues jump at me, till I can measure the damage and trace back the events… Perhaps two people, probably drunk, have entered through a gap between the wall and the Auro-Orchard fence; they first must have tried to force open the lock to the shrine, but they only had one rough tool it seems, and couldn’t get leverage; and then they attacked the lock of Riddhi Room and managed to snap off the latch and enter; they ransacked half of the cupboards, obviously looking for money and jewels. Some kind of alarming sound must have disturbed them suddenly, I suppose, because it is clear they left in a hurry, dropping and abandoning small brass icons and a bowl on their way back to the fence. This feels disgusting and sad: I should have thought of asking for more protection when work began on the fence…
