… Arriving here I find that the Highway people have damped many loads of soil along the tarmac of the road to Edayachavadi, and right in front of the gate; the way they work is so careless and callous that they waste and damage more than they ever accomplish and even what they set out to do has to be redone... I have to somehow spread that soil towards the fence and the wall to avoid that with the next rain it becomes a spill of mud all around the gate; I find that that “soil” is mixed with sheer rubbish, waste yards of cloth, plastic wrappers and large chunks of broken concrete… Whether it is in the material vital, or in the physical and material world, the condition which persists here is such that it is hard to hold on to any hope of change = the tamas is very heavy and dark.
