… Arriving this morning I found that the Highway crews have not only laid series of speed-bumps across the old road just before it meets the Highway – which may help prevent more accidents -, but used some of their tarred gravel to join the porch of the main gate up to the road… They obviously did this out of their regards for the place and with the best of intentions…; but it is an eye-sore…! Besides, it will send the dirtied rain water rushing into the garden through the gate and it will also encourage motorcyclists to drive down to the gate and park all the more easily next to it… I do not want to hurt their feelings, though. So, as a compromise I just cut away about a foot width of the new layer of tarred gravel from the stone paving of the porch, so the water will be directed to the soil before it and riders will be discouraged…
