On that day I get cleverly cheated by a well-dressed middle aged fellow who breezes in saying the TNEB meter is defective and needs to be changed, and suggesting it will go faster if I give him the advance of Rs. 500/- to get the new meter and he will install it tomorrow itself instead of waiting longer… Although I sense at the moment some inconsistency, he really doesn’t look like a trickster and seems to know what he is talking about, and even gives me his name… Of course, he never comes back; Manikandan finds out from the Electricity Department that there is indeed an employee bearing the name given by the trickster, which employee becomes worried about his reputation…! And I later learn that he has tricked a good many others with similar little stories, in a short period of time, and then vanished…!
