Yesterday night a very dense rain poured like a waterfall for an hour or so; today it is calm… So much rain and soaking of the ground here has revealed large hollows made by colonies of termites over the years, which I have to collapse and fill with sand and soil mixed…

… The AVES team has come and, after some tests and trials, found that the underground cable from the main panel to the pump switch has somehow become damaged and the current does no longer come through; the outdoor lights have also fused… However they have brought and installed the new protective device and Prakash, very helpfully, sends at once for a roll of electric wire and connects it to the pump and we can start it and fill the tank… It is as if some small genii were busy creating confusion here with the current; now, to install a new cable permanently is going to cost another large amount, but what to do?
