… Just as I am doing the Aarti, 3 men march in noisily and, seeing me inside, quieten and wait for me to finish; when I come out of the shrine they explain that they are engineers for the Highways and have come to inform me that the dismantling of the western wall will now take place…! When I show them the position of the well, they seem to be aware of it and suggest I create a bend in the new wall so as to incorporate it. It turns out they have been given the green light to go ahead and dismantle the wall right away by some Auroville Tahsildar named Chandrasekhar, that money has been paid already to Auroville, and all maps and markings have been passed on to the responsible people of Auroville (!) … and that in fact not one of these “responsible” people has seen fit to warn me in advance so a new wall could be erected before the machines drive in and break down the existing one… So now I have to make a move…
