There is humid, bruising heat this morning… Parthy has come with me to catch up with the watering…

Namaskar, Ganesha, Sweet Magician, Champion of the Mother, Your stride is strong and wide and clear, Filled with the knowledge Of the Harmonizer, Yet unattached And content simply to appear, A reminder Of the Bounty of the Lord.

In the newspaper this morning there were pictures of a great festival held yesterday at the Christian Church of Velangani; one picture in particular showed a priest watching from a raised vanguard the huge flock of people filling the road as far as the eye could see, and there was in his stance and expression something of the satisfaction of … I don’t know … a swallower, some kind of force that thrives on this resignation and dependence from large numbers of human beings… I may be wrong, but I find this repulsive, monstrous and despicable. I have never got the same feeling with Hindu centers, although there are enough examples of sheer extortion and exploitation – the sense always remains that, no matter what, a truth endures, essential and free and giving, like the sun…

Sri Ganesh, there is with you a healthy balance – you do not exact this type of weak abandon from the people…!
