And particularly on this day, the first day of the Navaratri festival dedicated to the Mother Durga as She conducts her yearly battle with the forces of opposition… It also happened to be the day when representatives from several neighboring villages gathered to protest openly against Auroville’ s present land policies, particularly the Secretary’s and his minions’. It is also, by the calendar, exactly one year to the day since the last year’ Chaturthy day (on which Aruna had died of a road accident)… Of course, one’s subjective experience of events cannot be a proper basis for drawing any conclusions, but I still get a sense of a sort of shift in subtler levels, of which these incidents are only signs or scattered effects…

… In the afternoon, as the garden is still thriving from the last rain, I decide to wash and scrub the marble walls and floor of the shrine and I give Sri Ganesh a bath as well and let his figure stand bare and breathe freely and it is like a break, a pause and a re-charging…
