O Sri Ganesh, Commander of the Armies of Beings, With your tranquil and joyful gait You conduct The great collective ceremony Of offering and unity –

Powers and energies Are gathered round you

And you can see In all directions And rise high and delve deep And no secrets Are kept from you -

Sri Ganesh, leader of all And dispenser Of Their Blessings.

… As I was already seated inside the shrine, Manikandan came in; we exchanged not a word and I ignored him while he made a production of sitting before Sri Ganesh and laying his offering of already wilted “Prosperity” flowers and shaking coins out of his purse… After the initial punch in the plexus, there was only quiet and I could then see there was no change in him: he hasn’t realized how low and how wrong he acted and he’s still quite comfortable with it all…! And later, I found that he had taken a stone from the large planter holding the sapling of a peepul tree: why? I guess he considered this particular stone to be “his”!
