In his note he also apologizes for some spontaneous, accidental “art work” which he did in the bathroom and which I may not like… And, later on, I do find the “art-work”: he has covered an entire area of the walls with the imprints of his own hands stained with soot; it takes me quite a while to scrub it all off with brush and water. I write him a reply, to the effect that it takes no effort to destroy and confuse and disrupt, while it takes a steady and unwavering perseverance to build anything of quality. I thank him for the card but ask him to keep it for us both since he is the one who received it.

Early this morning, Manikandan phoned me from a halt on the road (he went with the “group” back to the hills and they left before dawn) to apologize at length and tell me that he was like a baby before me and wanted to be helped to grow and ask me to forgive him… As I was on my way here, he phoned again to inform me that he had ordered a newspaper delivery every morning at the temple and would I please not mind it and keep the papers for him in his absence… I am still quite uncomfortable with his energy and skeptical about his apologies and I wish he would stay away for some time to make more progress.

In the meantime, I feel quite happy to be alone with Sri Ganesh again…!
