A man who is visiting the area asks to see the temple; after looking at everything he asks me, insistently, why is it that our Ganesh is wearing no dress... Many a time I have been somewhat remonstrated upon; according to a number of orthodox people in the South, Lord Ganesha’s lower parts must be covered, at least during the puja; and indeed in this area most figures of Ganesha wear at least a longi. However, Kusum did not do it and I myself do not believe it is a must, nor would it make sense, as a very important part of Sri Ganesh’s message and expression comes from his lower parts. It is only, of course, on Chaturthy celebrations that our Sri Ganesh is fully dressed...
