… As I am pruning bougainvilleas in the garden, a big fellow comes in and asks to “see” Sri Ganesh; I let him in; he does his pranams briefly and then proceeds directly to scold me for having offered the “wrong” flowers, saying one must never offer these double orange and yellow marigold flowers to Lord Ganesha… In these matters, I am puzzled: I can sense this is only one step away from calling me sacrilegious; but there is only one choice for me, and that is to develop a centered and concrete relationship with the spiritual reality of Sri Ganesh and, from that basis, to discern what is “right” or “wrong”. As it is, I have repeatedly found a particular happiness in the puja whenever I can offer those flowers of “Plasticity” and they are fresh and healthy. Surely there are mythical stories to justify this fellow’s remonstrations and I may even have heard or read about them – but I forget most of these “informations”: it just goes away. What remains is what I come to regard as part of the evolving relationship and discovery and deepening experience…
