Questions and Meditations

Is this limitation that of the physical ego which can only momentarily and punctually identify within the boundaries of personal proximity and would fear to lose itself in the crowd or to be engulfed by it? Yet we do sometimes feel reinforced, augmented, amplified and encouraged by numbers, in certain occasions or in such circumstances that trigger or bring about a large gathering of people, often in unexpected ways, in which energies flow and move with a vigor and intensity beyond the reach of an isolated individual. And professors and teachers who must frequently or routinely address sizeable assemblies of individuals so as to communicate to them some knowledge, whether abstract or practical, do develop an ability to relate to large audiences which can actually adapt to many different situations.

This is so because it is no longer a matter of affect alone, but of an aptitude to establish a sort of impersonality in their action.

Effective impersonality is only possible once and when the ego has been dissolved.

In our present times it happens that entire populations are suddenly projected in horror and chaos.

An individual organism, a small tiny human body, cannot identify with the suffering of a large number of such aggregates, so long as the impersonality of the true consciousness has not established.

*

Every second that passes, how many living human bodies are screaming?
