Financial power was acquiring new vehicles with the formation of predatory conglomerates which freed themselves from all borders and States to spread over all the continents, encouraging the frantic pursuit of profit and the manipulation of the masses through the more and more effective appeal of a bewildering multiplication of consumer goods – and, to this end, orienting the technological discoveries and their applications.

And devastating the earth.

More and more hubs of organized violence were declaring themselves throughout the world. The planet became a chess-board, the bigger powers vying, through intermediary conflicts, to consolidate their respective access to fields and deposits of raw materials wherever they lay

Within India, with the opening of the market, the competitive tensions to gain a profitable niche were beginning to influence the behavior and language of all rungs of society; new enterprises were rising and already established companies were hastening to diversify their activities or, whenever that was still possible, to reinforce their monopolies.
