and reasoned, referring to Her own explicit and repeated refusal to allow any outer organization to dictate the affairs of the community. But simultaneously was also rising a perception of a deeper significance in the fact of linking the destiny of this adventure to that of India – and of its crucial role in the assembly of the nations. India has this unique trait = for its children, whatever may be their individual occupation or position in time, the spiritual reality is somehow more important than the apparent reality of human existence. And so it was that, by virtue of its spiritual dimension, the project of Her city could be considered and treated as worthy and deserving of the formal protection of the central Government.

A particular clause of the Constitution of free India, however, stipulates that its government may not interfere in the running of any religious enterprise. The leaders of the owner Society thus figured that, in the event of the government declaring its intention to intervene, they could legitimately appeal to the Supreme Court which pronounces on all matters constitutional, by arguing that the stated aims of this enterprise were of a religious nature. And so, indeed, was it a religious venture, or was it a research center for a new society and a new creation?

But religion is in itself a creation of the Mind, born of duality and separation.
