In other countries too, the wish to participate and contribute stirred to action associative groupings or motivated isolated individuals to assemble and channel concrete assistance.

The inhabitants of the neighboring villages often bore within themselves an extraordinary aptitude to learn and master a know-how, a craft, skill or trade or a technique – the youngest generation particularly, as well as the women, too often relegated to domestic chores, responded to the possibilities that were presented to them like desert plants to the first downpour: with a little inventiveness, creativity, patience and organization, productive units were thus born here and there on the plateau or near it. And one had of course to learn how to constitute the common kitty and share it equitably, assessing all the real needs by the same yardstick. Each domain of action, each settlement, each rudimentary service, had its priorities, its perspectives and its difficulties. And each one had to learn and serve the spirit of the ideal in one’s behavior, choices and actions, while a collective cohesion of the whole must constantly be evaluated and consolidated. For the adventure was exposed to many a danger – and not only external : there were many ways to betray, to compromise, to lie. Each one was discovering one’s responsibility towards the unity of the whole.
