Every dawn, for many weeks, several hundreds of villagers walked across the plateau to join these newcomers who wanted to build this new temple, here, on the barren land. With the aristocracy of the humblest and most deprived, they accomplished the task: through their instinctively measured effort and their modest resilience, their bodies simply clad of a loin-cloth in the implacable heat, day after day they had dug and carried the red soil, and their eyes were smiling. Unknowingly, unwittingly, they acted out a most ancient rite of offering, the energy of living bodies serving the great Mother.
