Visualization for Weight Loss -The Gabriel Method

Part II: Nonphysical Stresses that Activate the FAT Programs

In the same way, the animal brain doesn’t know what a wed- ding is, or a dress, or looking good, or a best friend, or even next spring. It understands safe and unsafe, and all the myriad of chemical components that go into that equation. Therefore, the basic challenge for all of us—a challenge that most of us are not even aware exists—is to simply learn how to communicate with our own brains. It’s like being the owner of a beautiful estate when the estate manager only speaks ancient Greek and there are no translators. That’s why there are so many misunderstandings and why we often feel as if we are at war with our own bodies. You may want to be thin with all your heart at a conscious level, but your animal brain is holding all the cards. If it doesn’t want you to be thin, because it doesn’t understand that that’s what you want or because it’s under the mistaken impression that you need to be fat in order to be safe, then you’re out of luck— plain and simple. But what if you could learn to speak to your animal brain? What if you could find a way to communicate with it and explain to it that you don’t want to be fat or need to be fat—that you actually want and need to be thin? If you make your animal brain understand that, it would quickly turn off the FAT Programs. After all, it’s in complete control of your body, but it’s also your willing servant. All you need to do is talk to it in a language it can understand, and all your problems are solved. Fortunately, there is a way to do this. Pictures—The Universal Language Just as you can use pictures to communicate with someone who doesn’t speak your language, you can use pictures—in the form of visualization—to communicate with your brain. Imagine you’re in a foreign country, where you don’t speak the language, and you need to do something basic, such as going to the toilet. You try asking someone where it is, but they don’t understand you. You do some miming that you think makes it clear, but all you get is stares because they
