My experience of Satprem

But D. came back to Auroville and this new rapprochement was at once neutralized by her concern for the public opinion. The separation hardened and I was once again forbidden to approach Auragni. If Auragni had a fall, it was my fault; if someone had been stung by a scorpion, it was because I had come or were about to come and any illness was caused by my evil influence… and so on! Later on, D went back to Australia with Auragni and her new companion and found work. Later again, all three emigrated to France and settled there. It was only when she was 18 that Auragni was able and allowed to decide independently to find me again, although she could never talk openly with D. about it. Several years after we had found each other again, D. on her side had the occasion and the possibility – after a series of dissents and splits, sometimes tragic, in Satprem’s entourage – to become the assistant of both Sujata and Satprem in their Nilgiris hermitage. And so, with a sort of irony which it is surely not easy to truly interpret, Auragni was one of the few people who last met Satprem, when twice she went to visit with her mother, the second time shortly before Sujata and Satprem left their bodies. From the little Auragni could share with me – the words that were pronounced, the emotions that were felt, the gestures – I got the impression that Satprem had recognized in her a certain capacity, a responsiveness and a force of liberty which he had appreciated and that perhaps he might have wished for her to join them and participate in the work. For by then Sujata and Satprem were very isolated. And there came another “irony” which I cannot explain: it was on my birthday, on the 9 th of April 2007, that Satprem withdrew from the body.
