My experience of Satprem

A beautiful meeting which did not happen

Proceeding with our lives, each day brought its crisis and its openings and there were periods which were tougher than others. Thus I wrote another time to Satprem, who answered with a brief note of encouragement: “6.4.78. Divakar, the only solution is to try again and again. Satprem.” Towards the end of the same year, my father Francis Jeanson announced his wish to come and visit soon. I went to Nicole’s as she had just returned from “the hills”, calmer and freer and more centered, with a new letter for Satprem telling him about Francis and expressing my wish that they could both meet, these two beings who had so many common points in their respective journeys. He replied fairly early and with much care: “Divakar, I have read your long letter. I well understand your idea and I appreciate the inner orientation and evolution of your father, although I am quite ignorant of his works and his action – since 1943 I have only lived a few months in France. Moreover, I no longer read at all since, a long time ago, I decided that I wanted to touch another means of communication. I only peruse one newspaper a day so as to get informed of outside events, and those articles of “scientific interest” which are flagged for me. Correspondence is so voluminous that I hardly find the time to do my real work. I cannot see a possibility to meet with your father, at least in a near future. I must look after not only the original volumes of the Agenda but also their English translation and quite a lot more besides. In fact, I believe your father may very usefully engage in dialogs with Auroville, without involving me at all. There is no dearth of dialogs there. There are periods of expansion and there are periods of concentration and preparation. I have communicated as much as I could, last year while in France, with whoever wanted so. At present, it is time to DO. It is in silence that one does. You will be disappointed, but I believe you will understand me. If there is indeed a
