Named after Jim Corbett who lived in the area and wrote the Maneaters of Kumaon. Jim Corbett's winter home at Kaladhungi (86km from Dhikala, the base for visiting the Corbett) is now a museum. Built between 1570 and 1586, it was later abandoned probably because of lack of water. The magnificent palace complex with its Diwan-i-Am and Diwan-i-Khas is preserved as it was in Akbar's time. When Elizabethan Englishmen came here in 1538 to meet Akbar they found a city exceeding London in population & grandeur.
