What is heroism?

It is the white fire that burns us when we will beyond the terms of our mortal existence.

It is when, even but for this moment, one chooses priorities, necessities and values beyond any consideration for our own preservation and safeguard = when, even but for this moment, our individual existence escapes the dictatorship of death.

We forget all our calculations.

We can no longer doubt, nor tergiversate.

We are suddenly in relation with a more important necessity than that of our own limited physical existence.

And we adhere to it and we will to honor it.

Whatever the consequences.

Even if the act, the movement to which we unite in this moment may cost us our life.

We accede to another dimension of the human experience, in which the manifestation of the values essential to the integrity of mankind is of more concern, matters more, than the needs and necessities of an individual’s physical life.

And if, through this thrust of grace, we have taken some radical decision, a sudden turn in our life, which has introduced us to another flux of circumstances, perhaps in the company of persons we would not have met otherwise, at the service of a demanding task or objective, we must then align all our personal movements and priorities so as not to betray this greater law and this greater sense to which, in this decisive instant, we have offered ourselves.

It is then that we touch upon another degree of heroism, in which the real stature of the hero further reveals itself before us.

For it is for us now to maintain the flame of our commitment and dedication with our own nature, which has remained ordinary.
