Another Choice

This presence, then, which our intelligence cannot grasp frontally but only through a sort of passive permeation, which our vitality cannot capture but can only cherish secretly, which our physical energy cannot embrace but which it can only learn and receive and welcome, this presence then takes little by little the place of living reference for all we experience and encounter, for all our choices and all our relations. By the single fact alone – imprescriptibly and indefinably – that one has become conscious of this inner presence, a change of perspective occurs in our parts and there spreads a growing need of the True, the Right and the Vast. Our sentiments and emotions, our thoughts and reflections, our approach of all action and our relation to others – to those who already are dear, those already familiar, as to those we now meet -, undergo or perceive a kind of shift of gravity and as if the birth or the emergence of a new self-demand.

The quality of one’s movements and relations, their transparency rather than their form, become centrally Important.

And this inner gaze, which is not one’s own but gives one sense and guides one, is pitiless towards one’s own weaknesses and calculations, while it leads one to cultivate towards the others a more profound and freer empathy – free of all judgment as of all expectation equally.
