Another Choice

Or is there indeed a will to harm, prevent, soil and spoil, a positive objective will, also issued from the origin, also a necessary contradiction – guarding its secret treasure?

Yet we are also sometimes seized by this abrupt understanding, this compelling realization: the Supreme is in everything everywhere – in the monster and the brute, the pervert and the idiot, in the coldest cruelty as in the most violent passion or the most vicious malice, the Supreme must be there too and the challenge is to find IT there again.

Our capacity to love must grow to such height and such universality that nothing can any longer contradict it.

It is not enough to pluck what is nice and kind, pleasant and likeable, what seems innocent, what shows goodwill and proves to be humble and strives not to lie or deceive: we must also harvest the truth of the madcap and the gangster, of the ogre and the bandit, of the sorcerer and the vampire, of the insatiable dictator and the most cunning demon. It is not enough to always choose harmony, to call it into one’s every action, sentiment and thought, one must also look straight into the eyes of the crazed and possessed and plunge in them till one finds the origin, the One, the innumerable Divine.

This inner being, this center of loving fire ever offered in the great flow of the Grace, this brother of all times, has known all the vileness and abomination, the indignity and indigence of human existence and of all of it as of all these myriads of physical moments has known to extract a greater force of being.

This world of truth is blossoming now from the germ of the universal psychic seed, under the action of a Principle of consciousness which had never before intervened in evolution.
