Another Choice

If our inner being has indeed, as seems now more than probable, transmigrated from body to body and life to life, transferred from land to land and country to country and from a century to another, has one not already experienced the life of the condemned and tortured?

Has not one been already indicted and sentenced for one heresy or another?

And has one already held the instrument of the executioner?

Why and how must one ever, human and alive, manifest abomination?

We learn, despite recoils and swings and mishaps and tumbles and all the disappointments and setbacks, despite of us in fact, to perceive as a more and more concrete and simple evidence the effective presence of this consciousness-force. We learn and understand the necessity of offering: accepting the fact of our ignorance we learn and understand the necessity of becoming again like very small children whom only the adult’s hand can guide to safety. Thus we now stand at attention and, at this instant, at peace, freed from all question and all anxiety, trusting and given, these words arise and only these words can express it all: “what Thou wantest, what Thou wantest…”
