A Tale for Tomorrow

Third episode

Several days and nights have passed, none of them could say how many. There was now only, or mostly, the impress of a work to be done, of a service ahead of them.

One day they felt that they had to try and express the call which they all perceived, or rather, the necessity of answering it, of discerning how to answer it. There was no apparent reason for this, no external pressure was exerted, the grounds remained as if impregnated with a guarding tranquility, but, ever since they all had been able to verbalize this inner experience which had been until then their personal secret and that, by doing so, they had discovered its objectivity, or its universality, the feeling had matured in each of them of a kind of new responsibility.

The sun was at its zenith.

Without knowing exactly how or why, they all found themselves gathered in a clearing sheltered by the woods.

They sat down.
